Who gets to decide?
It's never easy dealing with matters of the heart. I try and make myself feel better by saying, "at least I know what I want". When in real life I'm totally confused. Doing something that totally throws your values out the window might not sound ideal, but where does one draw the line? How do we know what is the difference between compromising and standing up for our values? When do we realize we cannot do something to please our partner and when do we feel we are throwing our values out for our partner's sake?
I for one have been through enough relationships to know what I would do and what I wouldn't. But there comes a time when you meet someone that you will be more than willing to compromise your personal beliefs for, to make them happy. Then knowing even after you have broken up one day, you won't regret ever giving up a little piece of you for their happiness.
I often read columns about relationship and what people believe relationships should be like, but I can safely say that I am old enough to make my own decisions and if I would ever be asked I would tell others to do the same. If it feels right to you, do it. Forget the world for a while, and live for you.
