Best kept secrets...
So, in-between working over the holidays, I found the time to check out some spots I haven't recently been to around the city and found out some things I didn't know about. I was blown away with the few that I found and started to ask myself if I was really Capetonian. Then I realised that I was never going to find these places or find out about things if I hung around the same spots and never visit other people (o_O silly Lolita). I am one of those people that are curious about their surrounds. I like to know places and see things and do things(I guess you get the idea) but I was disappointed at myself for not finding these ones particularly, sooner.
I visited the Hout Bay Harbour Market the weekend before Christmas and was amazed by what I saw. The art, the food, the live band and the people. It was a great experience as I saw different traders from different countries all in the same place. I was amazed, which made food choice pretty difficult. What's really interesting is that, I frequently visit Fish on the Rocks a restaurant right at the harbour (I HEART SEAFOOD) and I have never bothered to go into the market. I didn't even know it existed until my better half pointed it out, which was really amazing.
Then I slept over at a friend's place just before NYE and I was mesmerised by the smell of her bed linen. It was mild and mellow, dreamy and soft as if you could touch it. It smelt like heaven. I asked if it was her perfume. She said no, it was Charlotte Rhys pillow spray. I had a good night sleep for sure. I decided to google her and i saw that she had a wide range of products. From scented candles, to skin and body care to perfumes. This was great.
I also found out that my special Friday Sundowner spot The Orphanage, throws cool NYE parties. I saw NYE images from the 2012/13 party and decided to go. Lemme tell you this, I have never stayed all night in one place on NYE. that's how good it was.
Those were 3 of Cape Town's best kept secrets I discovered....
Happy 2014
